Over the past two years, the Information Services Department (ISD) of the Ministry of Information, in collaboration with other divisions, has undergone a restructuring process to create a new organizational structure. This restructuring has resulted in the establishment of several divisions within the ISD:
Research Division: The ISD now has a dedicated research division equipped with state-of-the-art research tablets. This division collects the opinions of Ghanaians on government policies and programs, providing feedback to inform policymaking. It can also conduct research for private sector organizations.
ISD Media: A fully-fledged media division has been created to develop media content using government materials. The division distributes this content across various media formats and media houses. As part of this initiative, the ISD has launched a news website, www.ghanatoday.gov.gh, focused on combating misinformation.
Access to Information (ATI) Division: The ISD has established an ATI Division responsible for training and deploying Right to Information (RTI) Officers to assist in managing public requests for government information. This division also provides support to RTI Officers in their daily activities.
Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD): The PRCD has been fully digitized, allowing government Public Relations Officers (PROs) to receive monitoring alerts and report on PR developments. The division also continues its traditional role of staffing well-trained PROs in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Public Education Campaign (PEC) Division: A dedicated division has been set up to conduct public education campaigns, reaching out to communities through information vans. These campaigns aim to disseminate government messages and engage with the public.
These changes aim to improve the ISD's research capabilities, media content development, public access to government information, public relations coordination, and public education efforts.
