Beware of fake news

Beware of fake news

I have noticed the publication of a story by an online platform loud silence news later reproduced by another platform eghnews with the headline - "Ghanaians can go to hell, Govt will not back down on e-levy; Oppong Nkrumah".

I deem it necessary to draw the attention of the general public and other media houses to the fact that I have never and will never ever utter such words as ascribed to me by the two news portals.

The words are a total fabrication designed and attributed to me to cause disaffection for myself and the Government.

I am not the kind of person who addresses issues with disrespect and uncouthness.

It is unfortunate that some persons have elected to deliberately publish falsehoods and misrepresentations with the hope that this will cause disaffection for public officials. True journalism requires honesty, precision and accuracy in reportage. It does not include deliberate fabrications designed to serve the parochial interest of any individual. Those who do this, do damage to our democracy and it’s institutions.

I also encourage the general public to as much as possible continue with the practice of examining the actual unedited audiovisual or text associated with such headlines. A basic examination will often expose the mischief intended.
