Agenda 111 progressing steadily; Kpassa project to be completed in January

Construction works on the Agenda 111 facility at Kpassa in the Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region is progressing steadily.

The facility is gradually taking shape with most of the physical structures erected.

This came to light when the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and the Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare paid a working visit to the site on Monday, September 11, 2023, to monitor the progress of work on the project which started in 2021.

The Ministry of Information also used the occasion to brief the media on the progress of work on all Agenda 111 projects throughout Ghana.

This follows similar media briefing on the progress of works in Trede, where President Akufo-Addo first cut sod for the commencement of the projects.

Addressing the media, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare highlighted the profound socioeconomic and health impacts that Agenda 111 projects are set to bring to the local communities in the Oti Region. He stated, "with regards to its socioeconomic impacts, it will lead to the creation of numerous jobs for indigenes along the health value chain."

Moreover, Dr. Nsiah-Asare emphasized the healthcare delivery impact of the projects, saying, "the projects will help the country achieve Universal Health Coverage, which is the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

Providing updates on the progress of works thus far in the region, Project Consultant, Paul Osei said the monitoring team has so far visited the 4 construction sites in the Region expressing satisfaction at the progress of work.

So far, he said the Kpassa project is at an advanced level of completion with majority of the work done already. He gave the assurance that the project will be completed and handed over to government in January 2024.

On the average, he said, most of the contractors have done about 52 per cent of works on all the project sites visited across the country and was hopeful that by the end of the year, the majority of them would be completed and commissioned.

On his part, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah highlighted the meticulous planning and management of the project, which has been divided into eight zones, each consisting of an average of 14 sites. These sites have dedicated teams of consultants, including architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and biomedical engineers, ensuring the smooth execution of the construction process.

This, he called on all stakeholders, including local beneficiary communities, traditional leaders, youth, and actors in the local health sector, to rally behind the project and provide their unwavering support. He stressed the importance of community engagement and collaboration to ensure the seamless integration and optimal functionality of the health facilities upon completion.

The Regional Minister said the Agenda 111 projects in Kpassa is testament to the President’s singular promise to upgrade health infrastructure in the country. He said the ongoing construction of the four (4) Agenda 111 projects at Kpassa, Kejebi, Chindari, and Gyasikan will help improve healthcare delivery in the region. He thanked the President for the numerous developmental projects in the Region since the creation of the in 2018.

The Agenda 111 project, officially known as the Ghana Health Infrastructure Project, encompasses the construction of 101 district hospitals in areas lacking such facilities, the construction of 2 psychiatric hospitals for the middle and southern belts, 7 regional hospitals, and the rehabilitation of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. It represents a significant step forward in Ghana's healthcare infrastructure development.
